VR Kanji Cards - Prototype

VR Kanji Cards is an Oculus Quest App about picking up Kanji and placing them in a VR room to take advantage of  one's spatial memory to help memorize Kanji. The strategy for memory enhancement VR Kanji Cards is attempting to emulate is the The Method of loci, but without the requirement to use one's imagination to create the environment.  

The Kanji are ordered by their frequency throughout 5000+ Japanese Novels, and there are over 3000 Kanji. This app is simply a prototype for a tool I’ve wanted for a long time.

You pick up cards from a pedestal, and place them around the environment, which is a simple square room with a bunch of tables.

I’d like to add more interesting environments in the future, but for now I’m not planning on working on this project further. If it gets a lot of good feedback, I’ll come back, add more to it, and work on smoothing out the kinks.

Grip - Grab

Left Hand - Smooth Movement

Primary Button - Grab a new card from anywhere.

Things I’d like to add

• signs that if you touch with certain cards they will have that kanji appear on them
• multiple kanji transforms save files
• customize which parts of the kanji info are shown
• example words
• signboard that shows all kanji highlighted by placed or not
• make it so kanji line up with each other
• select and pick up multiple kanji
• group kanji to align them and pick them all up in a big group
• example sentences
• themed areas for different kinds of Kanji
